Activation is usually a smooth, end-to-end process — but occasionally you may run into a snag. This guide covers the most common issues people encounter during Starlink activation, including Kit ID recognition errors, account and payment problems, dish connectivity failures, router LED warnings, and the Starlink app not detecting your hardware.

<Note>
  If you're stuck, the Starlink app provides real-time diagnostics. Download it from the App Store or Google Play and follow the in-app instructions.

## Common Issues

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="My Kit ID is not being recognized">
    A Kit ID entry error is one of the most frequent activation problems. Try the following:

    * **Check for typos.** Your Kit ID is printed on the label attached to your Starlink dish or its packaging. Re-enter it carefully.
    * **Confirm the format.** A valid Kit ID always begins with **KIT** followed by a series of numbers (for example, `KIT-1234567890`).
    * **Watch for look-alike characters.** The number **0** and the letter **O**, or the number **1** and the letter **I**, are easy to confuse. Check your label closely.
    * **Try the Starlink app.** Instead of typing the Kit ID manually, open the Starlink app and use the **Scan Kit ID** option to scan the barcode directly from the label.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The activation website shows an error">
    Browser or network issues can sometimes prevent the activation page from loading or submitting correctly. Work through these steps:

    1. **Switch browsers.** Try Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge — whichever you are not currently using.
    2. **Clear your cache and cookies.** Go to your browser settings, clear browsing data, and reload the page.
    3. **Disable VPNs and browser extensions.** Ad blockers, privacy extensions, or an active VPN can interfere with the activation flow. Turn them off and try again.
    4. **Use incognito or private mode.** Open a private window, which starts with a clean session and no extensions active, then navigate to [starlink.com](https://starlink.com) to retry activation.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My payment was declined">
    Payment declines are usually caused by one of three things:

    * **Incorrect card details.** Double-check your card number, expiration date, CVV, and billing address — all must match exactly what your bank has on file.
    * **Bank blocking the charge.** Starlink payments are processed by **SpaceX**. Some banks flag unfamiliar merchant names as suspicious and automatically decline the transaction. Contact your bank, let them know to expect the charge, and try again.
    * **Try a different payment method.** If the issue persists, use a different credit or debit card, or check whether PayPal or another supported method is available in your region.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My dish is connected but I have no internet">
    If your dish appears powered on but you cannot browse the internet, work through these checks:

    * **Check for obstructions.** Starlink requires a clear, unobstructed view of the sky. Trees, buildings, chimneys, or roof overhangs can block the signal. Use the **Obstruction Checker** in the Starlink app to scan your dish's field of view.
    * **Allow time for satellite acquisition.** After a new activation or a power cycle, your dish can take **up to 10 minutes** to locate and lock onto satellites. Wait the full period before troubleshooting further.
    * **Verify your account is active.** Open the Starlink app, go to **Account**, and confirm your service status shows as **Active**. If payment did not complete, your service may not have been provisioned.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The router LED is red">
    A solid or flashing red LED on your Starlink router indicates a fault condition. Try the following in order:

    1. **Power cycle both devices.** Unplug the router and the dish from power. Wait 60 seconds, then plug both back in.
    2. **Check all cable connections.** Make sure the cable running from the dish to the router is fully seated at both ends and shows no visible damage.
    3. **Check for service outages.** Open the Starlink app and navigate to **Support → Outages** to see whether a known outage is affecting your area. If so, wait for Starlink to resolve it — no action on your end is needed.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I can't log in to my Starlink account">
    If you cannot sign in to your Starlink account, follow these steps:

    * **Use the Forgot Password flow.** Go to [starlink.com](https://starlink.com) and click **Forgot Password** on the sign-in page.
    * **Check your inbox.** Starlink sends a password reset link to your registered email address. Also check your spam or junk folder if the email does not arrive within a few minutes.
    * **Confirm you are using the correct email.** If you have multiple email addresses, make sure you are entering the one you used when you created your Starlink account. There is no way to retrieve an account using the wrong email address.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The Starlink app can't find my dish">
    The Starlink app communicates with your dish over your local Wi-Fi network. If it cannot detect the dish, check the following:

    * **Connect to the STARLINK Wi-Fi network.** Your phone or tablet must be connected to the Wi-Fi network broadcast by your Starlink router (the default network name starts with **STARLINK**), not to mobile data or any other Wi-Fi network.
    * **Restart the app.** Close the Starlink app completely, then reopen it and wait for the dish discovery process to complete.
    * **Restart the router.** Unplug your Starlink router from power, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, reconnect your device to the STARLINK Wi-Fi network, and reopen the app.
  </Accordion>

## General Reset Procedure

If none of the issue-specific steps above resolve your problem, perform a full reset of your Starlink system.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Power off both devices">
    Unplug both your Starlink dish and your Starlink router from their power sources.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait 60 seconds">
    Leave both devices unplugged for a full 60 seconds to allow them to fully discharge.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Power on the router first">
    Plug the router back in and wait approximately **2 minutes** until its LED indicates it is ready.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Power on the dish">
    Plug the Starlink dish back in. The dish will begin its startup and alignment sequence automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait up to 10 minutes">
    Allow up to **10 minutes** for the dish to acquire a satellite signal and establish a full internet connection. Check the Starlink app for real-time status updates during this period.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
